Cowboy Vernacular
$15.00I am extremely proud of my cowboy heritage. The best times of my life have always involved the activities around horses and cattle. The boots on the front cover of this album are my Twisted X work boots. They’ve seen some marvelous miles. The scars and patches came from years of the good daily grind. When I write songs, it’s usually a reflection of my charmed life on the wide-open northern plains of Montana. As an artist, the biggest pat-on-the-back that I can get is when a working cowboy or cowgirl comes up to me after a show and tells me how much they appreciate our music. This album is a collection of songs that has been inspired by the hard and beautiful life of the ranching West. My goal has always been to keep it real. I hope these melodies rise sweet and familiar to lovers of the cowboy way.

2000 Miles From Nashville
$8.00 – $15.00It all started in the Gustafson family living room outside the little town of Conrad, Montana. Every weekend, after watching Myron Floren lay down a hot polka on The Lawrence Welk Show, our range born dad would turn off the TV and crack out the old Martin D-18 with his oddball repertoire of old cowboy and folk songs. These musical gems were passed down from family and picked up from ranch hands he had met along the way. And so that special sense of “home” and celebrating our Western heritage was ingrained within me early on.
Country music used to be written about the rural culture of America. In the 1970’s Nashville sterilized the genre and herded it towards selling music to the metropolitan crowd. We still want to sing the honest and gritty songs that celebrate our farming and ranching heritage- the forgotten culture- the silent industry that puts the food on our table. It is the demographic that has been ignored by corporate radio playlists. From traveling across middle America for the last 30 years we have discovered an entire population of good folks who appreciate us choosing the road less traveled.

Song of the Horse
$8.00 – $15.00My heart resonates with the beautiful words of Billy Shakespeare: “A Horse, A Horse! My kingdom for a horse!” Over that last several thousand years many a horseman and horsewoman have come to experience the life giving power of good horses. To me the horse is a reflection of God’s beauty and grace. It was one of His greatest blessings to us plodding pedestrians. Astride a horse we are able to elevate our souls. In 1939 My father Rib and his brother Duke took a journey to Marfa TX to purchase some Quarter Horse seed stock to improve the genetics of their using horses, and so along with the rest of my family I have had the luck of being raised around good horses. Sorrels, bays, roans and greys gallop through my dreams. Their song I will never stop singing until I take my last glorious ride into the land of a thousand hills.

Sky Tones- Songs of Montana
$8.00 – $15.00“Sky Tones” is a compilation album of our Montana themed songs that I have composed and/or recorded over the years. In March of 2012 we went to Nashville and re-recorded Ridin’ the Hi-Line, Montana Moon, Goodbye Old Paint, the Yodeling Fool, Big Sky Lullaby, and My Home’s In Montana. It is the perfect soundtrack for any kind of Montana journey you plan on taking: physical or metaphysical, car or horseback, whether you are counting on loneliness or casting for love!
As I mature as a songwriter I begin to realize that the more I write, the more focused my songs have become to a sense of “place”. That place is Montana. My native land. My “querencia”. My sacred altar. I am a simple cow-horse man from the Big Sky Country. I have chosen to celebrate my life by picking up a guitar and singing about this way of life. Being a Western singer in the 21st Century is not an easy way to make a living… but oh, so fulfilling! The paucity and poverty of being a minstrel doesn’t seem so bad when you get to sing about the beauty of such a stunning land and the charm of her characters.
The mysterious and awesome power of music is nothing new. King David piqued God’s interest by strumming a few righteous chords on a harp several thousand years ago. Good music always has found a way to into the hearts and souls of those who listen. For me, there is no better inspiration to celebrate the wide open spaces than by being a songwriter from Montana. To sing about another place seems almost unfaithful. And although her depth and beauty are bottomless and complex, I will continue to sing about her until my voice is silent.

Rocketbuster
$8.00 – $15.00Wylie writes of the new project:
For as long as I can remember, music has always been connected with the impulse to move… to get up and dance…to celebrate life. Among my earliest memories of childhood are Dad playing the guitar in our spacious living room with Mom, my three older brothers and our sole sister as the enthralled audience. Dad thrummed his old F-hole Epiphone with a bouncing right hand as we skipped and waltzed the length of the house…each brother waiting on the sidelines to take turns dancing with our good natured sis. Mom chirped harmonies and clapped her hands in a cadence of approval. The power of music was in us all.
As a child of the sixties, I grew up in musical kaleidoscope of ever morphing genres. Folk, rock, country and pop were crowding the airwaves with the unbridled FM radio format and the plethora of evening TV variety shows. I was a Montana ranch kid with the gate of pop culture being thrown wide open to my eager eyes, ears and soul.
And so, with this album I am drawn like a moth to the flame, to a time and place where the music still dances, drums and drives…where the boundaries of genre are irrelevant. After a period of major life changes, I feel a renewal…the urge to cut loose and dance again. I am propelled forward by the explosions of rhythms, melodies and grooves that over the years have been deeply etched into my character. The musical universe is still expanding at the speed of light. Hop on and take a spin with me on “Rocketbsuter”!

Raven On The Wind
$8.00 – $15.00When I write songs, I really try to strike the balance between good old tradition and the West’s innate trait of forging ahead into new territory.
My favorite Western song writers, book writers, and artists have always uncovered the West’s true identity by throwing off the superficial, expected layers and digging deep into what makes our way of life so unique. The West is so colorful and vibrant. What makes it so enchanting to me is this hybrid of existence that draws its sustenance from so many different streams.I grew up in an era of music that was morphing so fast! All the great sounds and rhythms of the 60s and 70s are what drew me to love music, that and having my dad sing all those earthy folk and cowboys songs in the family living room. I was lucky to grow up with such musical diversity. It is only natural that the medley of sounds shows up on my recordings. Amongst these 12 songs you will hear Chuck Berry licks against cowboy chords.
I still hang out with some of the toughest ranahans in cowboydom. When I peek into their CD collection, I am always amazed: Jimmy Reed, CCR, Simon and Garfunkel, AC/DC, Bob Marley, the Stones. It’s an ever-eclectic mix of sounds and soul. To me, that is what the West is all about. Out here, to be an individual is the highest calling. Sheep are disdained. Our life is unpredictable. It’s wild, it’s laid back, it’s doctoring a Tasmanian Devil of a steer, it’s idyllic mornings along a stream bank, it’s Classical, it’s a waltz, it’s fast and furious, it’s Rock n Roll, and everything in between.
Let yourself go like a Raven on the Wind.

Hang -n- Rattle!
$8.00 – $15.00The times they are a-changin’. So is Western music.
Good art is born of a truthful heart. To deny the musical influences of my past would be dishonest. I grew up in an era of some of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll, country, blues, and folk music ever written. The words and melodies of those powerful songs reached outward on the airwaves, soaking into the sponge of my youth.I remember happily singing “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” as we drove 500 head of fresh mother cows through a spring snowstorm. The rollicking rhythms resonated above the remote plains of my northern Montana home with a timeless cadence that forever echoes in my cowboy soul.
The beat is in me; it’s gotta come out. Hope ya like the new songs.

Yodel Boogie!
$8.00 – $15.00~ A day without yodeling is like a day without sunshine ~
“Wylie Gustafson’s yodel is distinctly American, building on a legacy that includes Elton Britt, Roy Rogers, and his own father, Rib Gustafson. His is the call of the cowboy: deep in the prairie, astride his horse, up on the stage. It is his passion for this tradition that has led to his yodel being heard by more ears than any other in history, reaffirming this expressive vocal art in American music.”
−Joshua Kohn, National Council for the Traditional Arts“Wylie’s yodel is the call of the real West: clear, true, and wild. A cultural ambassador of cool, Wylie ignites audiences−young, not so, Western, and urban alike−as he blazes a hot musical trail that heads way, way out West.”
−Margo Metegrano, Editor CowboyPoetry.comHowdy Wild West fans,

Bucking Horse Moon
$8.00 – $15.00“Wylie has made many contributions to cowboy music, and with this CD he’s put another good one in the barn. There is no doubt Wylie is one of the best singers no matter the genre. What sets him apart from most of the herd, is he’s a 24-carat cowboy. He lives his songs in real life and I’d be plumb proud to trail with him.”

LIVE! At the Tractor
$8.00 – $15.00What a great trip it has been!
We got things started with the first incarnation of Wylie & the Wild West at Ronnie Mack’s Barn Dance at the Palomino Club in North Hollywood back in 1989. It was the same deal back then as it is now −try to win a crowd with good music and make ‘em feel like they’ve got their money’s worth. My idea about playing live music has pretty much been the same since I started playing in high school dance bands in the mid 70’s −be an entertainer. It all started as I watched Chuck Berry on T.V. one night as he duck walked, strutted, kicked and grooved across the stage while never missing a beat. Now that was entertainment! So I picked up my Dad’s beat up old Epiphone and started strumming along to most any record in my family’s record collection. My brother started a rock n’ roll band and was on the lookout for a cheap bass player. I ordered a bass through the mail, and before I could say “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” I was in front of a crowd that wanted to see a show.
I am really proud of the band that makes up the Wild West. They are a hard-working crew that has made the sacrifices of the road time and time again. Over the past 15 years the band has performed on four continents in thousands of gigs. We’ve never had a hit record, but that hasn’t slowed us down a bit. It’s never been about making perfect music that’s all in tune and slicked up. It’s more about rockin’, rollin’, swingin’ and yodelin’ while trying to pluck that emotional note that you can’t get anywhere else but in front of a LIVE! audience. We have tried to keep the spirit of our performance at the Tractor Tavern real by not doctoring things up in the mix. Here it is: trail dust, hair, mystery notes and all.
Happy listening!

Paradise
$8.00 – $15.00“A walkin’, talkin’, singin’, strummin’, yodelin’ ambassador of all things Western, Wylie Gustafson never fails to convey both the exhilarating possibilities and trying obstacles of the dusty plains that he calls home. With a voice as warm as a Montana sunset, and a band equally versed in Western swing, rockabilly, honky-tonk, and classic cowboy balladry, Wylie & the Wild West are riding high on Paradise. A varied collection of rousing two-steps, lonesome laments, and luscious lullabies, Wylie’s fifth album stands as a masterful chronicle of open spaces: from the mountains’ inspiring majesty to the longing that a cowboy feels on the long rides away from home. Listening toParadise means hopping in the saddle for a ride with one of the giants of contemporary western music. Climb in and hold on!”
Brad San Martin
Music write“Each collection of Wylie’s music proves that he just keeps getting better. As it happens, he works in a little more variety, more variations in approach and arrangement. He’s not just one of the best two or three yodelers breathing anymore, he’s grown as a musician and a writer. As a bonus, the band proves that Western swing is more than alive and well, it’s dang near nuclear powered here.”

Ridin’ the Hi-Line
$8.00 – $15.00“Whether you like a song that’ll take you ridin’ rockin’ rollin’ down the trail, or for a more gentle ride under a big Montana moon, the yodelin’ cowhand has gathered up some mighty fine songs that can be turned loose on anyone who enjoys and appreciates good honest music… these are songs that I’ll guarantee will have you yodlein’ your blues away!”
-Don Edwards
Western singer“Every once and a great while, the real deal comes along. Wylie is indeed just that. Whether he’s belting out an up-tempo yodel, or singing a heartfelt ballad, his sincerity, talent, and dedication to the art form make him one of the most believable artists in country music. Wylie’s recordings and his music overall, underscore that there’s a lot more to country music than just what’s being heard and played on Top 40 radio.”

Total Yodel!
$8.00“If you will allow yourself to fantasize and daydream about days gone by, put Total Yodel! in your stereo system and slip into your favorite chair, close your eyes and let your imagination run wild. Soon you will be relaxing around the campfire under a sky filled with stars. This CD will let you escape the 21st century to a more simple time. A time when true emotion and feelings can be expressed in a song.”
−Bob Whittaker
Grand Ole OpryPresident & General Manager“Nobody likes good yodelin’ but the folks and there’s folks everywhere and I don’t think there is anyone today that can top Wylie’s yodelin’ ability. There are several different yodelin’ styles and ol’ Wylie has got em all down pat. He’ll give you some Jimmie Rodgers, Elton Britt, Slim Whitman, Hank Williams, Roy Rogers, and once in a while he’ll get high enough to sound a little like Patsy Montana and Rosalie Allen. Total Yodel! is a collection of classic yodelin’ songs and some real dandies that Wylie has written. If you like good singin’…good yodelin’…and good songs Total Yodel! is one more you need in your collection.”
−Larry Scott,
WBAP, Fort Worth, TexasYodeling … something you just don’t get to hear much of nowadays. A lost art that deserves to be resurrected and echoed far and loud. It was born somewhere in the Bavarian Alps and somehow ended up on American shores dressed up in the form of a Jimmie Rodgers verse-ending refrain, an Elton Britt stratospheric free-for-all, or a tearful Slim Whitman vocal break. It can be happy, it can be lonesome … it’s always soulful. On a cool autumn day in Nashville, the band and I holed up in a cozy studio and laid down an album’s worth of the stuff that good ol’ country & Western music is made of. Hope ya like it!

Way out West
$8.00 – $15.00“From out of the West, with the thunder of hooves, a cloud of dust, and a stratospheric yodel come Wylie & the Wild West, blending the cowboy sound of the 40s, the rockabilly of the 50s, the California hard-country sound of the 60s, tossing in a little Texas shuffle and coming up with a unique and personal style Wylie calls contemporary traditional, but which is just clearly his own: music from the planet Wylie.”

Glory Trail: Cowboy and Traditional Gospel Songs
$8.00 – $15.00These songs are a collection of words and melodies that have woven their way into my life in a most profound way. The church where my wife and I worship is nestled in the rolling hills of the Palouse in eastern Washington State. There I married my beautiful spouse and sang to her the song “Gracious Reward,” which I created for our wedding day. On any given Sunday the din of voices wafts through the rafters of the Country Bible Church and carries outside across the little valley where we make our home. Our small congregation heartily sings the songs that have been sung by generations, songs that are the cornerstone of our little church built by German immigrants who inhabited the Palouse almost a century ago. If you are ever passing through our part of the country on a Sunday morning, you are welcome to come sit with us and sing the old hymns that define our faith.

Wylie & The Wild West Show’s debut release: 1992
This album is Out of Publication“Wylie & The Wild West Show” is akin to a four-star, art-house film: you know it won’t get mainstream attention but that’s just as well, those that do partake will appreciate it even more. There’s not a bad cut here: the slow shuffle, “This Time” and the rousing “Wild Hair Boogie,” an instrumental that Junior Brown would kill for, deserve special attention. Just pop this CD in, grab a partner and stir up some saw dust.
